Hard Work

I climbed up on the roof and cleaned about half the gutters, using a steel bar and my new battery-operated leaf blower.

Last year, I couldn't physically manage getting up there, so my supplements are now definitely making me more capable.

While I was on the roof, I noticed where the tuxedo cat goes during the day. He is hunting in Cali's old territory.

I'm planning to completely cut down a fairly large tree next to the house. In the short term, I need to just trim it away from the roof. The electric pole saw for trimming it hasn't arrived yet.

I also ordered a programming cable to download radio station settings for my new ham radio. I bought a handheld shortwave transmitter/receiver, mostly to communicate and get news in the event of a mega-disaster. This entry was originally posted at http://www.dreamwidth.org/12345.html. December Update

I had a scare on Sunday, when Halo wouldn't walk. He's back to normal now, and I now think that he earlier strained his hip joints scrabbling up a steep embankment.

He's getting older, and I've started him on one of the joint supplements that I take.

I ordered a 40V electric pole saw and leaf blower to cut back a tree growing over the roof, and then blow out debris from the roof gutters.

The kitten is going outside for a few hours every day, and I'll periodically check on her until she's ready to come back in. She plays and hangs out with the other cats and also goes around to the dog yard to see Halo. He really likes it when she visits him. Thanksgiving

I've been physically better in the last month, and it might be the supplements I'm taking. The painful tendon is healed after years of difficulty. My body is also more limber.

Having all these animals has been good psychologically, especially during this Covid isolation. They bring a lot of joy into my life. This entry was originally posted at http://www.dreamwidth.org/12345.html. Please comment here, there, and everywhere.

Gardening and Cats

I'm slowly working on getting the garden plots composted and tilled in preparation for winter. My next jobs are to remove the drip irrigation system from the south bed and clear the area with a string trimmer. The earlier freeze warnings were false alarms, and all my cold-sensitive plants are still ok. I still have peppers in the ground in the main bed and will harvest another hundred soon.

The kitten ran out earlier than I had planned, but later she was hanging with the other cats, and after an hour or so came back inside voluntarily. I'm afraid to lose her, but have to trust that she is learning to stay with the other cats. This entry was originally posted at http://www.dreamwidth.org/12345.html. All Purpose Update

We saw two large stray dogs this morning, which brings the current total out there to four. I don't have the energy to catch them, and no where to put them. I believe that animal control killed the last dog I caught, which demotivates me.

My own animals take up so much time, and I'm also feeding another two cats over at the school.

I fixed the roof yesterday, before the rain, and have no leaks, as of yet. I felt pretty good physically while I did the work, but was wiped out later last night.

I'm slowly clearing out the tomato plants, and want to add compost and till both garden beds soon.

The kitten is spending more and more time outside, which she likes. The cat that I call the adult kitten, loves the young kitten, and waits everyday for me to bring the young kitten out to play. This adult kitten also claimed one of the insulated sleeping boxes, and spends lots of time in her box.

Stray Update:
I ran into a couple that wanted the nicest of the stray dogs, a male husky, and I gave her a piece of rope to use as a leash.

She previously has had malmutes, and said this dog was quite young.

She managed to get the husky in her car, and took it home. This entry was originally posted at http://www.dreamwidth.org/12345.html. Please comment here, there, and everywhere.

Freeze Warning For Tonight

So I picked all the ripe peppers and all the tomatoes. There's a final gallon of tomatoes, with about 1/3 showing some color. I'll ripen them indoors.

I had an excellent pepper and squash crop this year, and a good okra and tomato crop.

Lots of vegetables are now safely put away for the winter and spring. This entry was originally posted at http://www.dreamwidth.org/12345.html. Please comment here, there, and everywhere.

Culinary Update, Gardening And Cats

I cooked some pork steaks and butternut squash together in the pressure cooker, and it turned out well. The sweetness of the squash balanced the pork flavor.

The kitten was with Dinah for a bit today. I give the dogs the option of going outside, and Dinah wanted to stay. The kitten did a close smell investigation of Dinah, and Dinah calmly sat through it, but went outdoors afterward.

I have lots of peppers out in the garden, and a good number of fat green tomatoes that don't want to ripen.

I mowed and watered the lawn. This entry was originally posted at http://www.dreamwidth.org/12345.html. Please comment here, there, and everywhere.

Gardening and Cats

The kitten is about 11 weeks old and can climb the fence now, so I have to supervise her when she's outside. She could easily get lost.

The tuxedo cat is feeling good, but the downside of that is that he wanders. The white cat had a wound on his neck, but it's healing. He's very feral, so I can't touch him, but he likes it when I feed him now.

I picked the rest of the squash today. I had a productive garden this season. I still have peppers and tomatoes in the ground. The peppers are flowering and growing a new crop, but the tomato plants have just a few green tomatoes. When these last tomatoes begin to show color, I'll harvest them and pull out the plants. Squash Harvest

I harvested perhaps 2/3 (20?) of the butternut squash. I tested them for hardness with my fingernail, and picked the oldest squash. I cleaned each squash with a rag, then put them on wire racks in the garage. This entry was originally posted at http://www.dreamwidth.org/12345.html. Please comment here, there, and everywhere.

Gardening and Cats

I cleared about 1/3 of the tomato patch, and picked what few tomatoes were left on the plants.

The kitten is going outside with the other cats about 2 hours a day. The adult kitten plays with the baby kitten, while the other cats watch the hilarity. The kitten eventually wants to come back inside, and this morning she came in on her own.

She's perfectly litter trained, and will eat dry food, but I give all the cats wet food as well. This entry was originally posted at http://www.dreamwidth.org/12345.html. Please comment here, there, and everywhere.
